FIVE Attitude Changes to Help avoid defective dating

  1. Every relationship is an opportunity
    to model Christ’s love.
  2. My unmarried years are a gift from God.
  3. I don’t need to pursue a romantic relationship
    before I’m ready for marriage.
  4. I cannot "own" someone outside of marriage.
  5. I will avoid situations that could compromise the purity if my body or mind.

FIVE steps in builiding a Godly lifestyle

  1. Start with a clean slate
    • Repentance is a change of direction based on a change of heart.
    • Adjust the focus of relationship.
  2. Make your parents your team mates (God parents will do.)
    • Wisdom
    • Accountability
  3. Establish Clear Guidelines.
    • Help us keep on course.
(e.g. how much time should I spend?)
  4. Check who’s whispering in my ear.
    • Secular influence (worldly).
    • keen-dating friends.
  5. Season your conviction with humility (谦卑)
    • Different answers for different people.

note: Primary purpose of communication is Encouragement and Growth.

I Kissed Dating Goodbye (by Joshua Harris)
I strongly recommend that everyone to buy this book and read throughly!
Quoting from http://www.joshharris.com

Many readers who start out critics of I Kissed Dating Goodbye
are surprised to learn that the core message of the book isn’t
about "dating" but living your life for God.

The followings are some of the important notes I’ve copied from the book.

The phrase that I like the most :

"Intimacy is the reward of commitment"

SEVEN habits of highly defective dating

  1. Dating tends to skip the friendship stage of a relationship.
  2. Dating often mistakes a physical relationship for Love.
  3. Dating often isolates a couple from other vital relationships.
  4. Dating can distract young adults from their
    primary responsibility
    of preparing for the future.
    (Skills & Opportunity)
  5. Dating can cause discontentment with God’s gift of singleness.
  6. Dating can create an artificial environment for evaluating
    another person’s character.
  7. Dating often becomes an end in itself.

Have you ever felt the Cold Water Pour when you are
already on fire and charged up to do something?

Then the next thing is you do not know what to choose?
Fish or Bear’s Paw? 鱼与熊掌?

This is exactly what I’m facing now….
Unless the UPU guys speed up their progress,
I guess I will still be undecided…..

You see, I am all passionate to go
Singapore NUS for Engineering Science already.
Then, suddenly IJM corp. called and told me
that I am one of their selected scholars.
Now, they will only give me the scholarship
if I got either Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering in LOCAL UNIVERSITIES.

Well, you know…. (haha, I laugh each time I’ve said this phrase.[British Accent])
my 1st and 2nd choice for local universities is Telecommunication Engineering.
Mech. is 3rd and 4th, and Civil is 5th and 6th.

OKOK…. When I went to IJM for interview,
I got only NTU offer of Physics & Apply Physics. (NUS was slightly later)
That’ why I’m still not sure where will I go.
(to me, NTU’s offer was not that attractive)
So I answer the interviewers that I will
stay back at local University if I got the scholarship.

Finance is always the big issue here…..

My policy is something like "I’ll go wherever the financial support is."
Because I believe that God will prepare the best path for me.
Only He will know what is BEST for me.
That means all doors will be open and
I will just need to take the big step in faith!!!

So back to the big decision…..
Will I stay back if I got Mech. or Civil Eng.?

To me, I will choose NUS because…..

  1. Engineering Science = Exactly what I want to study.
    Interdisciplinary.
  2. New culture = new excitement!
  3. New people = knew each other from scratch
  4. New Course = I’ll be the pioneer!!! Thrilling!!
  5. Competitive peers = Brain stimulating challenges!

I’ll try to list down the advantages of local university :

  1. Finance problem solved, no need to be in debt due to bank loan.
    (approx. RM60,000 in Singapore)
= save money for Masters and phD studies~~
  2. Old friends = the people network still exist
  3. Proximity = near to home… Can go back to Ipoh often.
  4. Easier life = Not much stress (which is not really what I want)
  5. Build a larger people network locally that’ll ease the establishment of Christian University.

Disadvantages of local universities:-

  1. Quality of Lecturers
  2. Facilities and Equipments
  3. Language of teaching
  4. Quality of Peers
  5. Research Opportunity
  6. Too many people know me :Þ

Aiya….. I’ll leave everything to God lar….
Wait for him to close and open doors~

But I know no matter local or singapore,
I’ll still need to pack my basic necessities.
How to carry my CPU ar? (wonder….)
