Been thinking about it,
I have strong feeling towards Eusoff Hall,
I want to contribute to the hall,
make friends in Hall,
experience Community living,
work on projects together,
sharing the same goal,
a platform for blessings.
But if I am in a leadership position in hall,
what is the BIG picture that I want to paint?
what is the VISION?
what is it that I want to see when my term ends?
But anyway, I am still not in any leadership position yet,
give me some time, I’ll think it through….
BIG picture huh?
Dear Lord,
show me my purpose in Hall!!
I know that it is not a coincidence that you have placed me in Eusoff Hall.
Let your name be glorified in where I am planted!
Thank you Lord,
AMEN.
I took Critical Thinking & Writing (EG1413) last semester.
I’ve learned to think and write critically.
Most importantly, I like that module.
Before I took the module, I was anticipating for it.
During the semester, I enjoy every moment of it.
Back then, I don’t know why…
But now I know.
According to Merriam-webster,
criticize means to find fault with : point out the faults of
Honestly, I don’t really ‘understand’ the meaning of criticize until I’ve search for its meaning just now.
After I see the meaning of the word criticize,
it is the exact word to describe what I always like to do subconsciously.
I just like to criticize, to find fault or pointing out the faults of something or somebody.
But seriously, I did all that without any ill intention.
I just want to analyze, think and figure out a way to solve the ‘fault’ or problem.
This is what I called the after effect of years of scientific training.
In science, we’re told to analyze a problem critically and try to apply a formula to solve it.
I guess subconsciously, this set of thinking method just creeps in when I’m interacting with other people.
I’ve just learned that some people just can’t take criticism at all, some will take it and keep it in their heart silently, some will just laugh it off, some will take it as a challenge and try to outwit the guy who started it (by justifying it or ’shooting back’.
The book iLove (by Johanna Castellanos) describe arrogant people as simply
"people who feed their egos by humiliating others." (aha… ego is another word which I don’t fully understand)
But I found on Webster
ego
1 : the self especially as contrasted with another self or the world
2 a : EGOTISM 2 b : SELF-ESTEEM 1
3 :
the one of the three divisions of the psyche in psychoanalytic theory
that serves as the organized conscious mediator between the person and
reality especially by functioning both in the perception of and
adaptation to reality — compare ID, SUPEREGO
- ego·less adjectivehu·mil·i·ate
: to reduce to a lower position in one’s own eyes or others’ eyes :
So what is the meaning of ‘feeding ego by humiliating others’?
My analyzed interpretation is "trying to feel a sense of self-confidence or feeling important of himself by lowering the position of another person in his/her own eyes"
Maybe I’m always criticizing, trying to find fault, but that doesn’t make me a proud person right?
It might seem like I’m trying to humiliate others but sometimes I am actually trying to probe for response and in a way understand the target better.
Aha~ I’m doing experiment, I control a variable and wait for the resulting variable to response.
Sometimes I just like to stimulate people to think, maybe criticism is not the best method to do that, but that’s the only way I know as for now.
I like to stimulate people to think might partly be due to the fact that I like to think myself, and of course I always anticipate the way people response to my questions.
I am just curious about everything, likes to think, love knowledge.
I guess sometimes I just went overboard and might have accidentally hurt someone.
Words are powerful.
Hereby I want to apologize for all the harmful words that I’ve said to whosoever whensoever .
Sorry friends.
Some Interesting explanation that I’ve found
ego·tism
1 a : excessive use of the first person singular personal pronoun b : the practice of talking about oneself too much
2 : an exaggerated sense of self-importance : CONCEIT — compare EGOISM 2
Aha… I’ve learned a new descriptive word.
Take note of people who always say "I"
ego·ism
1 a : a doctrine that individual self-interest is the actual motive of all conscious action b : a doctrine that individual self-interest is the valid end of all actions
2 : excessive concern for oneself with or without exaggerated feelings of self-importance — compare EGOTISM 2
su·per·ego
: the one of the three divisions of the psyche in psychoanalytic
theory that is only partly conscious, represents internalization of
parental conscience and the rules of society, and functions to reward
and punish through a system of moral attitudes, conscience, and a sense
of guilt
This is the interesting one, I didn’t know that superego means this!!
This is so so so interesting.
Now I’m anticipating to take the Intro to Psychology module.
al·ter ego
: a second self: as a : a trusted friend b : the opposite side of a personality c : COUNTERPART 3
I’ve seen this word on an advertisement. Didn’t know it means this.
A second self… but how do we use it?
